Our Longstanding Relationship with Monitor Audio
June 30, 2025How It All Began
Monitor Audio was first established in 1972, however our first association with Monitor Audio started a little later in 1989 when Frank and I were looking to leave our current positions at Alberts Hi-Fi in Murray Street, stretch our wings and start our own venture.
We were considering the purchase of an existing business in Murray Street called Hi-Fi World. The owner invited us to dinner with Monitor Audio Founder Mo Iqbal, who had called into Perth to visit the owner of Hi-Fi World during that week.
We had a great dinner with extensive conversation on all things audio-related and it was certainly a pleasure to have spent time with Mo.
In the end we headed in another direction and purchased Bob Jones Audio in Glyde Street, Mosman Park, which eventually became Frank Prowse Hi-Fi. But we never forgot about Monitor Audio and a few years later we approached the importer at that time, Gordon Hoskins, about taking Monitor Audio on and being the brand’s exclusive representative in Perth.
Growing with the Brand
We had huge success with the brand and saw the transition from it being designed and manufactured in the UK to the first models released from the new Chinese factory which had been purpose-built from the ground up with UK staff on site.
I have shared with clients over the years that we were initially a little concerned in regard to the change before us, but when the first of the new Chinese-manufactured models arrived, the quality of finish was better, the packaging far improved, and the sound quality unquestionably an advancement over the previous series. This was certainly the sign of the great things to come from Monitor Audio and we have never been disappointed.
We primarily specialize in their Gold and Platinum Series but have access across their entire range.
A Personal Connection
Monitor Audio Headquarters is still in the UK and, in an interesting twist, they are located in Raleigh, Essex, and I was born at home on Raleigh Road in Essex, so maybe there is a deeper connection than just the sonic one I have been enjoying for all these years.
Do call in for a listen, I promise that you will be surprised and delighted.
Happy Listening.
Cheers, Dave
