Accuphase Electronics and Gale GS401 Speakers
March 7, 2025There are 2 products that I get excited about each and every time I see them, regardless of the age of the product .
Accuphase Electronics and Gale GS401 Speakers.
These two brands Accuphase and Gale are close to my heart and I get a buzz talking about them and arranging restoration of these old models from the 70’s and early 80’s for our long standing clients.
Gales Iconic Chrome ended 401 speakers (Chromies) performed to levels that a speaker of their size simply never should. Twin 8″ bass drivers, a midrange and a tweeter all in a sealed enclosure and with the speakers laid on their sides (as they were designed to) they delivered a performance
level that kept owners in love with them and declaring never to let them go.
I grew up with my fathers Chromies at home driven by the classic E-202 Accuphase Amp (The first ever integrated amp made by Kensonic Laboritories). Just last week I took in in a pair of Chromies for a complete refurbishment owned by a very good friend of mine, whos father was the Manager of Alberts Hi-Fi in Victoria Park and he inherited them on his fathers passing and wanted to get them back to their full performance capacity.
He also received his Dad’s Accuphase as well, which may well be the next restoration project he embarks on.
The delight that these owners have when receiving back these treasured products and having them bought back to life to put smiles on the faces of yet another generation of listeners is priceless.
RIP Peter Hilton (Manager Alberts Hi-Fi Victoria Park) your gear is being well looked after.
Happy Listening.
Cheers Dave
